Why I started Lotus
I started experiencing mental health issues at the age of 12, primarily presenting as depression. At 14, I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. What followed was eight more years in the mental healthcare system, including a misdiagnosis of bipolar disorder and, eventually, a rebranding to treatment-resistant depression. I tried over 15 medications and interventional treatments, including transcranial magnetic stimulation and intravenous ketamine.
It wasn't until I was diagnosed with an underlying borderline personality disorder and admitted to a specialized treatment program that things really started to shift. I met peers who had struggled with the same experience of life. I trained in practical skills to manage my emotions and my relationships. And I dove into the deeply seated inner beliefs that were causing such intense symptoms. All this ultimately allowed me to no longer meet the criteria for BPD.
But this care broke the bank, and it was only accessible in one city.
I founded Lotus to bring this kind of specialized care to everyone who needs it, and to make it the standard rather than the exception.
